In this guide, I will walk through the basics of the Green/White Treshgeddon (Threshold Armageddon) deck in Premodern. Premodern is a casual format spanning Fourth Edition through Scourge, and features a banlist that sets it apart from existing formats.
In the last two weeks of Feburary 2022, 56 players gathered to play 5 webcam matches of Magic. These players represented 6 Old School communities across Canada, and a group of Outsiders looking to defeat the Canadians for their Cup.
Congratulations to the winning community, Quebec City Brew Crew, who selected Le Pignon Bleu (The Blue Gable) to receive the $1,234 raised. Le Pignon Bleu helps less fortunate families in the Quebec region.
With everything happening with Omicron, how about another Boreal Community Cup to keep our minds off things, and to bring the Canadian communities together? And by that, we mean pitting Canada’s Old School communities against each other, all to benefit charity!
The Canadian Old School communities’ organizers hosted the very first Boreal Community Cup: a one-day webcam event on February 6.
70 players from across the world battled for their community using the Boreal ruleset, effectively 4-Strip-Mine Atlantic. Thanks to the players and donors, the event raised $1,905 forJeunesse au soleil (Sun Youth). And an especially big thanks to our judges, David Lachance-Poitras and Robert Hinrichsen, who put in a lot of work to make sure the event didn’t go too off the rails.
Canadian Old School communities’ organizers will be hosting the very first Boreal Community Cup: a one-day webcam event on February 6. Canadian Old School communities (including Capital Chaos) will be competing with others to win the Cup. An entire community, and not a person, wins the Cup and communities get points for their performance in the Swiss, spice and their use of their Community card (see below). Also, the winning community picks the charity.
We did it! We hosted 33 Old School magicians for a one-day, 6-round webcam tournament. We sent $350 to the Ottawa Food Bank, earmarked for COVID-19 relief.
We really appreciate those who took the time to play in the event as we adjust to our new normal.
I can’t say the event went without hiccups. We were planning on using Wizards’ event software and it turns out some features were locked, so we scrambled to find a solution before the tournament started. Between that, and a few technical difficulties as people got used to their setups, we had a late start. Thank you for not giving us too much of a hard time about it.
We will be playing in the basement of The Clocktower Brew Pub Glebe, 575 Bank Street, Ottawa. The area will only be used by the event and we will have a dedicated server.
There will be two organized events this year: Old School and Premodern. Proceeds will go to the Ottawa Food Bank.
