Boreal Premodern Event Report

We had 18 players for our first ever Boreal Premodern charity event. This event brought several new players to the community where they can explore Magic formats from a time before Optimus Prime could fight Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead.

In total, $1,467 was raised for Feed the City, an organization that delivers food from food banks to those who can’t access them.

Donations came from artists and players with Jean Scrocco of Spiderwebart generously donating two prints by her late husband, Greg Hildebrandt. (Greg’s brother, Tim, helped with the Krosan Warchief)

Handsome mages

We were hosted by the Clocktower Brew Pub once again, who offered a back room where they could keep craft beers flowing.

Burn showdown

Our 18 players slogged through 5 rounds, vying for coveted Top 8 so they could make out with one of the prize cards.

To get to Top 8, you likely had to beat Burn, which was the deck to beat with 4 players piloting Ball Lightnings and Grim Lavamancers.

Burn was to be expected with many players joining Premodern recently. Stasis and Elves were the next most popular decks with 2 pilots each.

After 5 rounds, Patrick (GWU Oath) was the top seed after intentionally drawing the last round.

Green on green violence

With some players having to leave due to prior obligations, the Top 8 was:

  • 1 – Patrick Burt (GWU Oath)
  • 2 – Karl Rivest Harnois (Stasis)
  • 3 – Patrick McElligott (Elf Storm)
  • 4 – Laura Wilkinson (Burn)
  • 5 – James Duncan (GW Enchantress)
  • 6 – Brian Wilkinson (The Rock)
  • 7 – Kegan Chang (UW Rebels)
  • 8 – Matthew Parker (GB Broccoli Soup)
Turn 1 3/3 Elephant

After wining in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, it was a Patrick mirror match for the final.

Game 2 of the finals

Oath takes game 1 after a turn 2 main deck Cursed Totem followed by a turn 3 Oath ends it quickly. In game 2, elves goes wide after a few sad Oath triggers and overwhelms his opponent. In the final game, elves takes an early lead and Oath can’t catch up.

Congratulations Patrick McElligott aka Irelandking for your Boreal Premodern win!

A big thank you to those who came, those who told their friends, and those who donated!
